Meet Your New Co-Captain of SFEtsy

We had a tremendous year in 2012. And we accomplished so so SO much stuff... including building a complete Leadership Team - with committees and volunteers! Each leader spends 10-20 hours a week helping our team succeed in ways large and small. This year, we have a new Co-Captain stepping up the ranks to help me (Katy) lead the team!

Announcing our new Co-Captain: EVEN HOWARD!

Even Howard, Co-Captain of SFEtsy

Even has been tirelessly going above and beyond for SFEtsy this last year as the Leader in charge of Business Development & Education. Through this committee she organized many team workshops and events (like the Holiday Boot Camp, Zoo Event and the Bazaar Bizarre SFEtsy Booth!).
As well as contributed to the blog, built the team survey, helped with social committee and
meetup committee. Also, a little known fact - Even has been on Etsy the longest out of
ALL of our over 800 members!

Even says, "Handmade has always been the cultural touchstone of my life. Long before I knew that everyone didn't live such a life, I enjoyed making gifts for friends and family and my first thought when I had a want for something new was how I could make it with something I already had. I love ideas and their fruition, the collaborative synergy as well as the lone exploring along the way. My crochet jewelry is born of this journey, my own answer to the question of how to live simply and well while encouraging and enabling others to do the same in their own way. I've now lived in San Francisco longer than any other place in my life. Enjoying living at the place where people meet the ocean, I'm consciously learning from the people and potential of this city and especially our Etsy team beings and doings. Our team creates momentum and inspiration along with all our arts for sale and I love being part of that."

Her favorite item in her Etsy Shop is this Cedar Facet Geo Wood Ring.

EVEN'S CURRENT PROJECTS:
~ SFETSY Zoo Calendar (premiering soon!) - a partnership between SFEtsy, Weave & The SFZoo
~ Outright & Etsy Taxes Workshop! - Happening in Early March at Ruth's Table

Ask Even anything and she'll give you the answers you're looking for. She has years of expertise in selling her own work on Etsy, licensing products, working with retail businesses, gallery and event management, teaching workshops & more!

Together your Co-Captains - Even and Katy look forward to supporting SFEtsy!

TAKE ACTION: JOIN A COMMITTEE

Over the next couple of months, we will be looking toward team members and asking people to join committees and TAKE ACTION - be brave, contribute to our supportive arts community in ways that mean something to you. You want to know a secret? Why this community works so well, is because it's based around supporting members through projects each member is passionate about.  Now is a great time to reach out and be part of upcoming events as well as share new ideas.
SFEtsy is what you want it to be!

Treasury Team Presents: First Chill

Let's create treasuries celebrating the feeling of the first snow, or in our Bay Area sense, that first scent of autumn on a chilly morning.  Please share your favorite snow and wintery memories and ideas in the comments so we can get to know each other better.  Think cozy vintage, outdoor scenes, coming in for a hot drink, tailgating, and autumn dates... Please include at least 4 SF Etsy team members and tag your treasury "sfetsy team treasury" so we can find each other.  Share via your social media and message your featured sellers within Etsy too.

Our Alter Ego treasuries shared your ideas for Halloween~ Thanks to Diana of Fits Your Fancy, Irina of Picture in a Dream, Charlene of Mindful Presents, Joanne from Hunting Dragons, Pebble and Fire, Straight Razors and Parasols, and Lisa of Tickle and Smash for creating Halloween treasuries featuring SF Etsy team members!  You generated over 1200 views and comments for our team!

Charlene's Treasury is this theme's winner!  She is also giving 50% off in her shop with the coupon code: EXOTICHALLOWEEN50, one of her amazing hats and headpieces might be just the thing to polish off your costume!

Treasury Team Presents: Alter Ego

I like the idea that the best Halloween costume is one that brings out a side of you that isn't normally seen and embraces it fully.  My college chemistry teacher also once started stripping in class while giving the advice that "the worst Halloween costume is when you go as yourself."  Once he got out of his professor clothes, he was wearing a neon bike racing outfit (phew!).  So either way, our treasury challenge in the next two weeks is to explore the fun of your ideal Halloween persona.  Favorite costume of the past?  Seasonal embracing?  Modern politics?  Local party inspiration?

To participate:
  • Please include at least 4 SF Etsy team members (find with the tag "sfetsy" or "sf etsy") and don't forget that vintage and supplies hold some great treasures!
  • Please tag your treasury itself with the full "sfetsy team treasury" so we can find each other and get seen by Etsy.com admin.
  • In the description or first comment, link back to www.sfetsy.blogspot.com or www.fb.com/sfetsy so we can keep our community rolling.
  • Highest number of favorites, shares, comments, and clicks will win your shop and treasury the next blog feature!
  • Do message your featured sellers to let them know they are in your treasury and share your treasury in the SF Etsy team google groups as well as your own social media to spread your story!
Celebrating "Home Again" with the character of our Bay Area neighborhoods, we had myself (Even), Amanda Jayne, Lisa Spinella, Moria Hart, Jen Norton, Imelda, and Irina Lib curate treasuries and together we generated over 1700 views!  It's wonderful getting to know each other better too, please do chat in the comments and be friendly~

Our winning treasury was created by Lisa Spinella of TickleandSmash with nearly 450 interactions!  Go Lisa!  Lisa makes fantastic handbags in gorgeous and fun collage combinations.  Check out her very spooky Evilest Pazuzu bag, just in time for the scariest time of the year!

Thanks for participating! Our bi-weekly treasury challenges are open to all.  You can click "Create a List" on the right side of any existing treasury to begin your own.  I recommend using two open windows to make it easy to cut and paste listing numbers.  There's also the Treasury Tool from Shmetsy which is an add on app that helps you make treasuries faster (no cut and paste!) as well as message everyone in your treasury that they have been featured.

Treasury Team Presents: Home Again

In the Autumn, many of us are returning home from summer travels and turning back to enjoying our homes and daily routines.  This is also the time of year in San Francisco when we finally get some long, sunshiny days that make our own neighborhoods so fun to explore.  So... our next treasury theme is "Home Again."  For the next two weeks have fun making treasuries that celebrate your neighborhood favorite places and the feeling of being there.  Think about the weather, the mood, the company, the food, and what you like to wear and do there.  Don't forget to include at least 4 SF Etsy sellers by searching for our team tag and its variations - sfetsy, sf etsy, sfetsy team - to find local items.  The treasury with the most favorites, comments, clicks, and shares combined will be featured here on the blog!  It's always fun to get to know each other, so feel free to tell about your neighborhood adventures and chat in the treasury comments~

In many places, summer is passing into autumn, so in celebration of the transition, here's a tribute to San Francisco Summer curated by Diana Willis of fitsyourfancy.  It's easy to spot her love of color in her jewelry and shop full of amazing beadwork!

All are welcome to participate in our themed treasuries! Please use the tag "sfetsy team treasury" in your tags so we can find you and make sure to include at least 4 SF Etsy team members.  Please give a link to our blog (www.sfetsy.blogspot.com) or our Facebook (www.facebook.com/sfetsy) in the first comment space so shoppers can continue to find us.  Don't forget that vintage and supplies make great treasury items as well as handmade!  You can start making a treasury by clicking the "create a list" link found on the lower right of any existing treasury. ~Even
