SF Etsy Needs You!

Our team has reached an awesome place~we have more opportunities than we can accept! Every week our leadership team receives requests for partnerships and we need your help to take advantage of potential marketing, selling, and community events offered to our sellers.

To make it easy for you, I've organized our present volunteer opportunities below. We have online and out and about, team leadership and community connections, long terms and quick help options. You can reach out directly to the contacts listed for each position.
All of these positions qualify you for inclusion on the fabulous SF Etsy Leadership Team which include blog and Etsy.com priority linkbacks, fun leadership only events and opportunities, and the choice to grow or streamline your position in the company of great friends.  A steady hour per week helps tremendously! Our special events are planned around our volunteers' timelines so you can participate a little or a lot.
Many of these jobs can start in 2014 so if becoming more involved is one of your upcoming resolutions, reach out now and we'll set you up!  We look forward to unveiling an expanded leadership team in the New Year!
~Even

Treasurer Filled~Thank You!

While you're more than welcome to meet in person, most of this job can be done online in spare moments. Managing our paypal account income and expenses. Bonus if you are interested in helping us find an umbrella non-profit so we can move up in the world!

Pinterest Manager Filled~Thank You!

If you love organizing for improvement, we need you! This job is online only and can be done at your own pace. Familiarity with google drive is a must as well as interest in organizing and communicating well through mostly written word.

Calendar Keepers

This is a simple job: put up team events in two categories on our google calendar. We have events hosted by members and also ones where members are participating and we'd like to do a better job of sharing both. You'll receive calendar posts by email and add them in. You'll be part of the awesome Social Media Committee with Leader Lisa Spinella. If you like, this job can expand to posting Facebook event pages or other promotional powers.

Google Groups Helper
Any location, Longer Terms

Work with our Membership Committee to simplify the use of our Google Group. We are looking to create a quarterly notice that includes tips on how to use the group so this could be a very laid back position.  If you would like more activity, we are considering a "This week in SF Etsy" post to summarize the not to be missed posts and events.  Experience with email (and bonus if you've ever looked at the menus of google groups) will help with this job.

SF Meet and Make Leaders

Mostly San Francisco, Short Term and Long Term
Contact: Even Howard
We are often offered to host tables of "make and take" at local events and would love to form a cohort of super crafters to be called on in these cases.  We have many supplies already as well as experience to offer among existing volunteers. Susan Leff,  Lisa Spinella, Heather Lodgson, Arena Shawn, and Even Howard.
Your own ideas!
Contact: Even Howard
Remember the first Crafty Computer Night, Holiday Boot Camp, our huge Flash Sales, or our Rickshaw Bags Contest?  All these events and more were dreamed up for the first time by members just like you! Our most successful events and partnerships have been when SF Etsy members share what's important and local to them.  Have you always wanted to check out a museum in your area? Know a local manufacturer?  SF Etsy leadership is happy to help you kick off a new idea, let us know how we can help!

San Francisco Craft Show Producers
San Francisco, Long Term
Contact: Even Howard
We've great existing partnerships with venues like Urban Bazaar, Ruth's Table, SF Bazaar, Yelp, and more that can use leaders as well as event day volunteers.  You can serve as a committee leader for a specific event and we can help coordinate volunteer help for the days of the event itself. These positions usually offer back a free table for selling at the event. All these events have been done before so there are existing help and templates. We are open to new events as well.  Craft show experience is a must, if you want to start small, we can do that!
SF Etsy members Kelsey Holt, Ruth Tillman, and Imelda at SF Bazaar 2012

Internal SF Etsy Positions:

We do a lot in the company of each other to grow our business, host small events, and learn together. If you like interacting within a core team, this is a great place to be.

Neighborhood Meet-Up Leaders
All over, Long Term
Contact: Even Howard
You've probably heard about Imelda hosting the Business Group in her Outer Sunset neighborhood, or Deb Styer with 3rd Wednesdays in the Mission. Rebecca, Rochelle, Even, Katy, Adra, Eko and other team members have also hosted simple events in their homes from Crafty Computer Evenings to actual crafting, these are simple gatherings to meet close-by members and create any type of events you like. The main thing is to have fun and meet your neighbors!  Check out some of the linked events or create your own and let us know what neighborhood you represent. These groups often meet monthly on a regular date and you can certainly rotate responsibility for hosting among your group to make it extra easy. One of the easiest ways to start is invite your neighborhood members to go to a craft show or workshop.

Meet Your New Co-Captain of SFEtsy

We had a tremendous year in 2012. And we accomplished so so SO much stuff... including building a complete Leadership Team - with committees and volunteers! Each leader spends 10-20 hours a week helping our team succeed in ways large and small. This year, we have a new Co-Captain stepping up the ranks to help me (Katy) lead the team!

Announcing our new Co-Captain: EVEN HOWARD!

Even Howard, Co-Captain of SFEtsy

Even has been tirelessly going above and beyond for SFEtsy this last year as the Leader in charge of Business Development & Education. Through this committee she organized many team workshops and events (like the Holiday Boot Camp, Zoo Event and the Bazaar Bizarre SFEtsy Booth!).
As well as contributed to the blog, built the team survey, helped with social committee and
meetup committee. Also, a little known fact - Even has been on Etsy the longest out of
ALL of our over 800 members!

Even on Instagram

Even says, "Handmade has always been the cultural touchstone of my life. Long before I knew that everyone didn't live such a life, I enjoyed making gifts for friends and family and my first thought when I had a want for something new was how I could make it with something I already had. I love ideas and their fruition, the collaborative synergy as well as the lone exploring along the way. My crochet jewelry is born of this journey, my own answer to the question of how to live simply and well while encouraging and enabling others to do the same in their own way. I've now lived in San Francisco longer than any other place in my life. Enjoying living at the place where people meet the ocean, I'm consciously learning from the people and potential of this city and especially our Etsy team beings and doings. Our team creates momentum and inspiration along with all our arts for sale and I love being part of that."

Her favorite item in her Etsy Shop is this Cedar Facet Geo Wood Ring.

EVEN'S CURRENT PROJECTS:
~ SFETSY Zoo Calendar (premiering soon!) - a partnership between SFEtsy, Weave & The SFZoo
~ Outright & Etsy Taxes Workshop! - Happening in Early March at Ruth's Table

Ask Even anything and she'll give you the answers you're looking for. She has years of expertise in selling her own work on Etsy, licensing products, working with retail businesses, gallery and event management, teaching workshops & more!

Together your Co-Captains - Even and Katy look forward to supporting SFEtsy!

TAKE ACTION: JOIN A COMMITTEE

Over the next couple of months, we will be looking toward team members and asking people to join committees and TAKE ACTION - be brave, contribute to our supportive arts community in ways that mean something to you. You want to know a secret? Why this community works so well, is because it's based around supporting members through projects each member is passionate about.  Now is a great time to reach out and be part of upcoming events as well as share new ideas.
SFEtsy is what you want it to be!

Savvy Entrepreneur: Meetups, Business Groups, and Workshops

This past Saturday the SF Etsy Leadership team met to talk about big, bold plans for the year ahead. You’ve already seen a few things come to life, the SF Etsy Twitter chat and our first all team gallery show. We are all so excited and fired up to help build this community and support all of you in any way we can.

To that end, one of the biggest topics of conversation was what our role was in helping to organize various levels of get togethers. Here’s what we came up with, however we are totally open to suggestions and requests if you have an idea for something you wish would happen.

Meetups

We imagine meetups to be the social, community building side of SF Etsy. Our fearless leader Rochelle is the woman behind last year’s Craft Swap and will be pulling strings to make similar future events happen. We’ve got something in the works for May, but I won’t spill the beans just yet. If you have any great ideas for how all of us can get together more regularly or want to help out with meetups be sure to let Rochelle know.

As leaders we will organize a few of these a year with the intention of bringing as much of the team together as we can to meet face to face and make friends. Since we also know that many of you live outside of San Francisco we are looking for volunteers in the North, South and East bay to help us make these social events happen in your area. If this is something you’d be interested in contact one of our team co-captains, Katy or Steph.

Business Groups

A while back I wrote an article on the benefits of business groups and it motivated a lot of you reach out to one another to make something happen. That was exactly the intention. Business groups are your thing to manage and organize in whatever way helps you the most. It might be the same small group of you that get together once a month to share successes and failures or it might be a larger rotating group that meets every other week to ask questions of each other about running an Etsy shop. These can be as big or small, structured or casual as you want them to be.

However as leaders we’re here to support you in any way that we can so let us know if you need ideas on how structure one of these groups, have a group that needs more members or are in search of a group in your area. I personally would love to have a list of all the business groups that form so that I can help new members find the support they need. If you have a group you'd like me to be aware of just send a quick note with how often you meet and in what area. You are also welcome to add these meetings to our team calendar on the blog by clicking on the "Add Event" link just below the calendar.

Workshops

Yes, we also plan to have a few business success workshops for you before the year is finished. These of course are about building skills and knowledge to run your business successfully, although there may be a pre or post social hour added on.

We’re still hammering out the details of when and where, but look for one on branding to happen sometime toward the end of June and then a pre-holiday bootcamp workshop sometime in October. If we get a good response to these we’ll definitely plan more for next year.

So that’s our big plan for providing events that educate and bring you all together. As I said if you see something missing or have an idea for another type of event let Katy, Steph or I know and we’ll see what we can do.

We all look forward to meeting more of you in the coming months!

Genevieve not only writes The Savvy Entrepreneur she is the Co-Founder of Lightbox SF where she empowers creatives to take over the world. Check out the blog or how to work with her.

Congrats to all our new

The following people have been accepted to be included in the I Heart Art: SF Leadership Council:
The following people have expressed interest in volunteering for I Heart Art: SF:

As a rule for most Leadership Councils in the I Heart Art programs, there are up to 12 members in the Leadership Councils. This is mainly so that we can divide easily into committees of 3-4 people to perform different tasks in event planning, as well as offering a wider range of ideas to brainstorm when coming up with activities within our creative community.

We're very happy to announce that we have 4 more spots open on our Leadership Council & we'd love to hear from you!

If you're interested in being part of the I Heart Art: SF Leadership Council, please fill out this form by Friday, July 1st, 2011.Our Co-Chairs will be taking time to review the applications & will get back to you all with our newly-formed Leadership Council soon thereafter!
Would you like to help out & support I Heart Art: SF in another way? We're always looking for volunteers! We'd love to hear from you. You can email us with your ideas &/or sign up for our newsletter to get started!
