it's nice to see that you're doing what you can to supporting your community.
To me, shopping on etsy is the next best thing to local. Small sellers, handmade crafts - there's no starving chinese kid being exploited, and no CEO flying around the country in a jet.
Don't feel so guilty! If you can't find something local, Etsy is definitely your next best step.
I completely support shopping locally as well as supporting small businesses. For me, Etsy falls into the small business category.
I live in a small SF Bay Area town that has a small market with, of course, high prices, yet I do most of my shopping there as I think, as a community, we should support this small business. We are lucky to have it in town, and I much prefer it to jumping in my car and driving for 10-15 minutes, one way, to get to the closest large chain grocery store. If the community wants this, even for the sake of convenience on occasion, they need to support it.
I've never given a lot of thought to shopping locally on Etsy, as one of the things I love about it is that it has brought the world together as a crafting community in one place, and I like that, but I will give it some though now. At the very least, I look forward to hopefully doing some local events with other SFEtsy team members.
I think shopping local is awesome (so is shopping Etsy!)Local shopping is also better for the environment since it cuts down on transportation pollution.
Hello folks on the other side of the country. You are making me really miss they days when I lived in the Bay Area. I totally agree, buying local and handmade when you can is where it's at. Getting back to basics!
