Successful Second Etsy Meet & Make Fiber Salon at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles!

We had such a great time last week at the second Etsy Meet & Make Fiber Salon at the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. Big thanks to Rebecca Saylor of OodleBaDoodle for hosting such a fun workshop! More than 40 people came out to make Rebecca's specially designed No Sew Coasters.

Rebecca shows off a two-tone coaster design.
The participants really enjoyed choosing from a selection of lovely designer fabrics donated by our friends at FabMo. Rebecca had carefully selected a variety of linen fabrics, since linen would do a good job of soaking up moisture when being used as a coaster.

SF Etsy volunteers Rossella of Ross Lab and Armani of Retablos helping to organize FabMo fabrics. Thanks for your help, ladies!
Rebecca did a great job of explaining the "fabric origami" approach to creating these nifty little coasters.  Rebecca's unique pattern was easier to use than the results would suggest!

I love it when a finished project looks complicated and sophisticated but is actually really simple in design. Simply cut out four pattern pieces, a few carefully placed slits, assemble and you're done!

Jen (yours truly) of Mama's Magic Studio pins a pattern piece in preparation for cutting it out.
I'm delighted to announce that Rebecca has generously agreed to share her directions for this week's Tuestorial project, so stay tuned for a how-to if you'd like to make some of these lovely coasters for yourself.

Thanks as always to Christine and Teresa and all the volunteers at our event host, the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles. The Meet & Make Fiber Salon will be taking a break for the month of July but will be back in August!
Big thanks to the SF Etsy members who helped with this workshop! From left to right: Rossella of Ross Lab, Armani of Retablos, workshop leader Rebecca of Oodle Ba Doodle, and me, Jen of Mama's Magic Studio.
Stay tuned for details about our August South Bay Etsy Meet & Make Fiber Salon!

And in the meantime, if you're looking for some crafty fun in the South Bay, don't forget about our upcoming Etsy Craft Party on June 20th! We'll be hosting a Craft Supply Swap at the museum -- you can go here for more details.
